Question for handyman, metalworker, etc.?
Is a ball peen hammer made from stronger or more tempered steel than a normal hammer? Otherwise I don't understand why I would need it (?)...
I'm looking on the instructions for a pin punch kit (for removing rivets, etc.), and it says, "Always strike with ball peen or drilling hammer." The only reason I can think is that a normal hammer might be damaged (?)... any insight would be appreciated.
Ball peen hammers are used by the metal working trades. They are made of tougher matl than a normal claw hammer as we are using them to drive hardened matls. A claw hammer may chip and cause injury so wear safety glasses, even with a ball peen.
