How often will I see my boyfriend if he enlists for active duty in the navy or air force?
My boyfriend is thinking about joining the air force or navy, active duty for four years.
We won't be getting married as I want to have my own career, probably in Chicago.
How often will I be able to see him? What are his chances of being deployed? How dangerous is the air force or the navy? If he has to go to another country, how long will he be there for? How often will he move bases?
Do you think it's worth it if he mainly just wants to get the benefits if he stays in the military for 20 years? He will graduate from with a bachelors degree in finance (honors) in a year, which I think will give him a pretty secure future.
After the four years of active duty, he wants to become an officer in the air force. If we got married then, how often would we move (switch bases)?

1. It could be often, it could be never. First off BMT is 8.5 weeks long and your only contact with him with be snail mail. Second is Tech school which could be anywhere in the US, chances are phone calls only. After that assuming that he gets stationed somewhere near Chicago you'll be ok, just remember that the USAF chooses your station in the end. He could get stationed ANYWHERE.
2. It's the military. All the branches are dangereous. The USAF is doing convoys in the middle east. We have to worry as much as the army. The Army will deny this all the way, I guess it hurts their egos.
3. He can be deployed often or rarely, it depends on his job. Deployments can last anywhere from 6 months to a year.
4. Every 3 years. I believe the official number is 53 months.
5. Yeah it's worth it, thats the only reason I'm here lol.
6. He;ll have great job security, His job might not be in finances though. USAF places people where they need them, not vice versa.
7. Same amount of time, 52 months.
