What is a better hatchet? Fiskars/Gerber or Estwing Leather Sportsman Axe?
I have read reviews and can't decide which one to get, the Fiskars/Gerber have better reviews on the blade but are not one piece and I have wonders/fears about that. But the Estwing is total steel construction so no worries there, but there has been some observations of the blade not at all standing up to Fiskars/Gerber. Any help will be appreciated.
Being a "one piece" is important, have you ever heard of a samurai sword being 2 pieces - no way. I would definitely listen to your fears. Estwing has always been my choice when it comes to hammers, the only reason they don't last long is because they keep disappearing on the job sites.
I purchased the Estwing hatchet with the wood wrapped around the handle about 11 years ago, and the wood is starting to break off. But in its defense, I often left it beside the wood I was splitting outside in my yard. They offer the same hatchet with the blue rubber handle, for the people that make my same mistake.
I'd choose sharpening a blade over a 2 piece hatchet any day.
