whats the difference between a hammer drill and an impact drill ?
i have tried to put up some cutains but my hammer drill just can not get into it
i think its a lintle
would an impact drill do it
i am using masonary drill bits by the way
please please help as i have people walking by all day and night
The problem may be in the way you are trying to use the drill.
A hammer drill with the correct bit (sounds like your bit should be OK) should do the job.
But as you say if you are hitting a lintle (made of iron or steel) your drill may not be able to do the job. Try moving up an inch or so and try again. The linle if made of steel will only be 1/4 to 1/2 (at the most) thick.
The other thing to remember is that you need to be up on a ladder and be able to put the proper amount of pressure on the drill, a good lean using your shoulder and arm muscles is needed.
If you don't have enough pressure the drill will just "bounce in place" and not drill into the hard surface of stone or cement etc.
An impact drill as you say is used to put on and take off bolts more than it is used to drill.
