8-10 Months Eating Patterns?
I was sent this link from "Ages and Stages - Parents" website, and it indicated the below for an infant 8-10 months old. My question is, do other mothers agree, and abide by these guidelines?:
8 to 10 months
3-4 feedings of breast milk or 16-24 oz. of infant formula
Cereal and bread-type foods (2-3 servings daily): infant cereal, Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, toast, bagels, crackers
100 percent juice (4 oz. daily): orange, tomato, pineapple, or infant juices
Cooked or mashed vegetables (1-2 servings daily)
Ripe fruit (fresh or cooked) (1-2 servings daily)
Meat, chicken, fish, egg yolk, plain yogurt, beans, cottage cheese (1-2 tbsp. daily)
I really get upset every time I read this because my son just wont eat that much. He always has been so active and not a big eater. He ate solids once a day then the past month or two he won't touch it (unless it comes off of my plate like potatoes) He drinks from a bottle (though I have tried a sippy cup) and that is it... I have tried to hard to give him baby food and he refuses, pushes it away, throws a fit.... etc. (though he knows how to eat off a spoon loves the spoon and loves YOUR soup or soft food and will eat things like puffys etc...)
I do not give my son juice 1) because I want to make sure when he actually eats it is not sugary, 2) he did not care for it 3) It does not hurt him to wait a little longer and if he is not wanting the sippy cup I am not putting it in a bottle.
I think getting your baby to eat is the most stressful thing. I lose sleep over this and very jealous of all the parents who come up to me and lecture me about "how their kids ate much more than my baby etc"
THEN I think it is such a contradiction that some women say nothing but breast milk until they are a year... and then other people tell me my baby should mostly be on solids and a sippy cup by now -=sighs=- so I guess in my case I do not agree with the guide lines because I cannot get my boy to follow them
