Is the only difference between the Smith and Wesson Model 16 and the model 66 the stainless steel?
l instead of the blue steel? Is the rest of the gun the same?
I meant model 19. I think my Dyslexia kicked in. Thanks. I have a Model 66 from 1975.
it says model 66 on it
Hello!
I do believe you have your model numbers confused. If I remember correctly, The Model 16 was a K-32 Masterpiece ...The K-Masterpiece family was the Model 14 (K-38 Masterpiece in .38 Special), Model 15 (K-38 Combat Masterpiece [4 in. bbl] in .38 Special), Model 16 (K-32 Masterpiece in .32 S&W Long), Model 17 (K-22 Masterpiece in . 22 LR), and the Model 48 (K-22 Masterpiece in .22 WMR). I believe there was a K-22 Combat Masterpiece with a 4 inch barrel in .22WMR, but I do not remember the model number! There was also a Stainless Steel version of the K-38 Combat Masterpiece, which I believe was the Model 64 ... but all of the other Masterpieces were Carbon Steel! The uniqueness of the Masterpiece series, was the 6 inch barreled versions were all designed to have the identical weight of 38 ounces, with the weight controlled by rib weight!
When you are looking at the Combat Magnums, there were 2 (dimensionally identical) ... The Model 19 (Carbon Steel, Blue or Nickel finish) and the Model 66 (Satinless Steel). The only other difference (other than finish and type of steel) is that the Model 66 may have come with a red ramp front sight!
Good luck and good shooting!
ETA: Thanks for confirming the M16 = K32! My last exposure to the K32 was back in the '60s! All of the masterpieces had exposed ejector rods ... snapping into a retention point at the tip of the ejector rod!
