Orange Park Toyota drivers filled with Prius greenness
Researchers at MIT are toppling the auto industry on its head. For 2011, the banner release for automakers like Chevy and Nissan was the slow roll-out of electric cars, the first time ever these new driving machines have hit the market. Orange Park Toyota dealers are gearing up to launch their own version of electric driving with the potential release of an electric Prius model. Unfortunately for EV advocates, it appears that EVs may not be as efficient and cost-effective as we would like to believe. The new MIT study shows that coal-fired power, the way most electric mills are fueled, actually releases just as many emissions (if not more) than gas-fueled driving. One of the biggest sells of the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf was their eco-friendliness, and it appears that the façade of efficiency is rapidly deteriorating from the electric car market. On top of all this, the study shows that electricity prices at electric recharge stations could vary widely from state-to-state, in most cases costing drivers more than a refill of gas. It's slightly disturbing to find this information just as gas prices threaten to skyrocket, but Florida used cars dealers are confident that Priuses everywhere will answer the call for efficiency.
It comes as no surprise to many Orange Park Toyota dealers that electric driving may be less sustainable than gas-fueled driving. However, to a country obsessed with progress, the results are rather shocking – pun intended. According to a recent article in Tainted Green, "Determining emissions from conventional hybrid is straightforward. Researchers for the MIT Energy Initiative found that carbon dioxide emissions from hybrids are 33% lower compared to gasoline engines. Figuring out emissions from EV's, however, is more complicated, since it depends on how electricity is generated. If a plug-in hybrid electric car, like the Chevy Volt, is charged by carbon-free power, it would have 66% less CO2 emissions compared to gasoline engines. But if the recharge relies on coal-fired power, the emissions from plug-in hybrids are higher than the convention hybrids. And in spite of gains in renewable power, coal-fired power plants still accounted for 45% (and natural gas plants for 24%) of 2010 electricity generation. Using EV's will not significantly decrease CO2 emissions until nuclear and renewable electric generation replaces fossil-fueled power plants." Florida used cars are sure to benefit from this news as Prius models continue to fly off the shelves in spite of the dawn of electric driving and the marketing efforts of Chevy and Nissan.
The findings could deal quite a blow to Chevy, a brand that was on its knees, ready to give up during the recession. Orange Park Toyota dealers find the news welcome, as Toyota has had a few different recall fiascos in the last few years. Florida used cars are positioned to do very well with the news, as Prius continues to move forward in an industry shrouded by doubt of new technologies. Electric driving may be what consumers asked for in the first place, but they may not find the right sustainability.
