How to remove steering arm on my 1974 Chevy K5 Blazer....welded on?

LMAO I just spent almost an hour banging away on the steering arm on my '74 K5 and it feels like it's welded on....lol.

I have already used a ball-joint separator to remove the drag-link-to-steering-arm ball joint, and I've removed all 3 steering knuckle nuts. The cone-washers inside the stock steering arm will not budge.

I don't have a torch, and I don't have any WD-40. I only have the Blazer, and it's up on jackstands, so I have no way to the parts store. I have a BFH (Big Flippin' Hammer), a chisel punch (very thick), and all day.

Will I ever get this thing off without a torch and WD-40? Is there some mystic Chevy 4WD guru out there with a trick?

Please help, It's raining right now, and the longer I wait, the wetter the ground gets.........

I empathize with you I have been in your situation. May I ask why you are changing it out? Did you install a suspension lift? Anyways tap it on it's sides, up and down really close to thethree conical washers. Don't feel bad, it took me four hours to remove mine. They are a nightmare. Do not use heat. Over the years the seal in there (no actual seal) the conical washers end up fitting so well they actually seem to become one part. After removal, torque them to 90 FT lbs.

Thanks for looking at our Cone Chisel information.
