As RIM delve deeper into the minds of there audience it seems there phones have been less focused on business functionality and now lean a little more towards the personal user. When you look at there new Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 it is clear that younger users and the less business conscious have been considered.
With the phone comes integrated tools for social networking, messaging and web surfing. The Curve also has a digital camera and a multimedia player capable of picking up FM radio.
RIM have capitalized on the success of the previous Curve models, however a sleek, chrome band frames the phones LCD colour screen and four-row QWERTY keyboard. The optical track pad, known all to well to Blackberry users has been re-used; it is still proving to be a responsive and reliable UI navigation tool. The display has a 320 x 240 pixel resolution and has been mounted horizontally for optimized messaging and web browsing.
Exploring the Curve 3G's interface you notice the Blackberry 5 OS has been used; it is very simple, user friendly and it will be familiar to previous Blackberry users. Simplicity seems to be a running theme throughout the phone with basic application based menus, a customizable home screen and access to the Blackberry App World.
Accessing the internet is possible as the Curve 3G has been set-up with 3G, (as suggested in the name) and Wi Fi also delivers super fast connectivity providing the handset is within range of a wireless hotspot.
More and more young people re picking up on the new Blackberry Messenger fad; a free service provided by any of the current Blackberry handsets (including the new Curve 3G), which allows users to communicate with other Blackberry users. The phone is also capable of handling other IM clients including Gtalk, Yahoo! Chat and WindowsLive Messenger.
Owners of the Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 can enjoy the luxury of handling there e-mail accounts through the phones dedicated application. Hotmail and Gmail accounts are among the many which the phone is compatible with. Users can also utilise the SNS applications for Facebook and Twitter to manage there social network agenda's.
The digital camera is a 2MP effort which is capable of shooting videos and still images good enough to be uploaded to the internet, sites like Facebook and YouTube can be used to share your work. A pre-loaded video player will handle a selection of file types while a music player has be pre-loaded with support for multiple audio formats and FM radio tuning.
RIM have kitted out the Curve 3G with GPS and Blackberry Maps, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm jack for headphones and a microSD slot for memory upgrades.
The Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 is an accomplished all-rounder, though it doesn't excel in many areas it does provide users with everything they might need on a day-to-day basis.
The improvements to social networking are notable and the key addition of 3G network coverage will be a big factor in the phones overall success.
