Convert ounces - minutes? Help Please?
An industrial plant produces wastewater at the rate of 700 km^3 per hour. Convert this value to oz/min. Here are some conversion units:
16 oz = 1 pound
1 mL = 1 cm^3
1 oz = 29.6 mL
A. 1.42 x 10^18 oz/min
B. 3.45 x 10^17 oz/min
C. 3.45 x 10^7 oz/min
D. 1.42 x 10^5 oz/min
E. 3.94 x 10^14 oz/min
F. 3.94 x 10^3 oz/min
I am so lost on this question. Please help! I have tried this question multiple times, setting up so many equations, and I am still so confused.
Thank you!
OK. So if one km = 1,000 m = 100,000 cm, then (one km) cubed = (100,000 cm) cubed = 1 x 10 ^15 cm cubed. Then for 700 km3 this is 7 x 10 ^17 cm3 or 7 x 10^17 mL. There are 29.6 mL per ounce so you have (7 x 10 ^17 mL)/ 29.6mL/oz = 2.36 x 10^16 ounces/hour. There are 60 minutes in an hour so (2.36 x 10^16 ounces/hour) / 60 min/hr = 3.94 x 10 ^ 14 ounces/min.
The answer is E.
