How to test diffrent types of insulation?
I need a procedure or atleast an idea of how to test industrial (man-made fiberglass) insulation, cotton, and duck feathers from a down comforter. I would like to use boxes of some sort. so far, i have a box inside of a box, and the open area between the two filled with the variables. should i blow a hair dyer on them nest? i'm not sure what that would do though. please help, im in panic mode. I need a way to prove/ disprove which keeps heat in the best. thanks
Why not have a box that will contain your insulation and place a beaker of hot water in the middle of this.
The water temperature will drop as heat escapes through the insulation - measure the temperature of the water at regular intervals to see which material is best by causing the water to cool down the slowest (or keeps the water hottest )
You will need to think about making this a fair test .. same amount of hot water starting at the same temperature each time .. same amounts of insulation may be .. same cooling time .. The box will make sure you have the same thickness of insulation each time.
