WHAT BRANDS ARE GOOD FOR A PRE ELECTRICAL APPRENTICE?
So basically Im near the end of my electrical pre apprenticeship program and by January 2011 I should be working. But I dont know what tools are good to buy.
What i need is
-Basic Screw drivers
-Linesmen pliers
-Side cutters
-Channel lock pliers
-Hammer
-Hack saw
Ive searched it up on google and so far everyone is telling me Klein tools is the best! I would agree but i went to look at there tools and saw that 8 screw drivers cost $70. And that is something i cant afford right now. So I need something that is good and cheap. My teacher is telling us to buy IDEAL tools but im not really sure since ive asked electricians and they have not heard of this company. ive seen some HUSKY tools and they are affordable but dont know if there reliable?? ANY IDEAS??
PLEASE AND THANKS
Klein, Ideal, Channel Lock, Greenline were what is in my tool belt. (I don't work in the craft at this time) Start with what you can afford and when you get a little money, start buying the better stuff. You will have it for a lifetime. What I did was buy a tool to replace my junker after every one or two paychecks. Once the toolbag was the way I wanted it, I saved for a DeWalt cordless, Milwaukee sawzall and right angle drill. I love Klein cutters screwdrivers, pliers. Channel Locks are great (I cut the insulation off so I can ream emt better with the handle). Lennox makes a real good hack saw (weighted so it does not chatter). I like wood handled hammers because you can use the handle to push and bend bigger leads and not short out. I like Ideal testers and strippers. Every electrician is slightly different. Guys on my crew would flip each other shit for whatever was in their toolbelt. Ultimately, it is whatever you like.
