Possibilities with 4 mallet grip?

Hello all, say a marimba/vibraphone player is required to play with four mallets in a piece, yet there are some se ctions where only two mallets are used, is it difficult for the player to play fairly fast with the 2 inside mallets while holding the four mallets? Also, how long does it take for the player to swap from mallets to mallets or 2 mallets to 4 mallets and vice versa? Many Thanks in Advance.

If there is sufficient time between 2 mallet sections and 4 mallet sections then the percussionist will pick up or put down the necessary sticks.
