Double action pistol question?
I have never owned a double action pistol before but I have owned a few double action revolvers and I was just curious if they had the same concept.
I was trying to see if a double action pistol will fire if you insert the magazine and press the trigger or if you had to chamber the round first by sliding the lever back.
I know there are some pistols out there that claim to be double action but are really single action in mechanics but I am asking about a true double action pistol.
I own 5 different single action pistols and I am familiar with how they work I am just trying to get info about a double action pistol because I am considering buying one in the next few months.
Also,
I like to carry with a round in the chamber and the hammer down.
With my single action's this is dangerous because it is extremely difficult to let the hammer down safely.
I also would like to know if it is easier to do this with a double action pistol rather than a single action.
In a pistol, with the box magazine rather than a rotating cylinder, you need to chamber a round before the firing process can be initiated. Simply pulling the trigger will not 'lift' a cartridge into the firing chamber the way pulling the trigger of a revolver will rotate the cylinder to the fire position.
Each pistol is different. Some are safer than others with the hammer down on a loaded chamber. Some are downright dangerous. With the Glock you don't have this problem. Just keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. Also, don't throw a Glock with shell in chamber into a drawer or purse full of clutter. Keep your Glock in a holster that covers the trigger and you'll be okay. If you drop a cocked and loaded revolver it will probably go off accidently. If you drop a cocked 1911 with a shell in the chamber (even with the grip safety) it has been known to go off. The Glock will not discharge just because you dropped it even if you drop it from a helicopter. The only way it will fire is if you depress the lever in front of the trigger. That is Glock Safe Action. Just stay away from the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Doesn't get much simpler, or safer.
Best.
