What size gloves should you use for sparring?
I just started MMA and I was sparring with a guy who was using 16 oz gloves, he was left handed and he jabbed me in the nose and almost broke it, the cartilage swelled up it was bad. I thought if you wanted to spar people you should be using soft boxing gloves and head gear, his gloves were hard like maybe they were heavy bag gloves and neither of us had headgear on but that's what the instructor said he taught. Now I didn't stop fighting or anything after getting socked, I just stuffed my nose and went back in but I don't want to spar and get injured every time I come into the gym. Is it normal to use 16 oz hard gloves and no head gear? Because if that's the case then it's not worth destroying my face.
16oz is normal as is it sucking to get punched in the nose....Your face will be fine. You should use it as a lesson that you need to guard your nose and or move better. This is what you learn when you box though. You have a nose haha
