please help me with a couple physics problems?
A child sits on a fiberglass muskrat fastened 8.0 meters from the center of a merry-go-round platform that is rotating once every 7 seconds. What is the child's speed while sitting on the muskrat?
What is the kid's acceleration while sitting on the muskrat?
What is the child's acceleration, if he moves to the rubber kangaroo fastened 5.8 meters from the center?
The child's linear speed is r*omega (angular speed)..
but omega = 1rev/7s*(2pi rad/rev) = 0.898rad/s.
So the child's speed = 8.0m*0.898rad/s = 7.2m/s
The acceleration = r*omega^2 or v^2/r ..so a = (7.2m/s)^2/8.0m = 6.5m/s^2
If he moves to 5.8m then his a = r*omega^2 = 5.8m*0.898^2 = 4.7m/s^2
