Concrete screeting question (hope you have a good imagination)...?
I will be pouring a concrete floor in my basement next weekend. Here's the scenario... I have retaining walls all around the 15' by 30' area and 3-4" of stone down & leveled. The problem is, how do I screet it off with a 2x10 when I'm pouring right to the walls (unlike a basic form that a guy can stand alongside each side & hold & move the board)? My idea is to take a 3' piece of angle iron & pound it down into the ground with a sledge until the top of it is at the future concrete level. This will be done every 3' or so down the length of both 30' walls (3' from the wall). I will make sure to keep the "stakes" in a straight line by using a tight string tied at both ends... After the stakes are in, I'll spot weld 5/8" rebar along the top of all the takes. This will give me a nice guide for the screet board. My question is, after the crete is all finished, you'll be able to see the very top of that rebar - would it be OK to just leave it in or will the crete crumble alongside it? Thanx.
We used to nail the expansion to the walls with a concrete nail at the right height and then use a wood stake in the center. Then we'd pound the wood stake down into the ground once we got over the top of it.
The tough part was having one person hang upside down to finish the last little bit of floor after everyone stepped out.
