My Dewalt drill stopped working. Ideas?

I have a brand new Dewalt dc759 power drill that I used for the first time today. I unscrewed maybe 40 old rusty bolts that held up a shed wall. The drill worked great until suddenly, it just stopped. At the time, it wasn't even hot or anything. So I took the battery out and smoke started coming out from where it plugs into the actual drill. I thought I had just burned out the battery, so I went home and put in the spare but still, the drill moved very slowly and eventually stopped. What's weird is that the cold battery I put in there got very hot when you pulled the trigger even if the bit didn't move. Did I just simply screw up the motor? Any ideas are appreciated!

hey man if the batter is getting hot and smoking when you stick the battery in, the switch is shorting out. switch prolly cost 50 bucks but if its new id take it back to where you got it, or find a dewalt service center near by and let them work on it, it has a 2 year warranty.
