Power consumption of my laptop vs desktop?
Specs of my desktop:
Core2duo E6400
4gb 800 mhz ram
1 TB Seagate + !60 gb Segate 7200 rpm HDD
Samsung 17" CRT monitor
Palit Nvdia GTX 260S graphics card with 896mb memory
Creative 4.1 speakers
600 Watts UPS.
specs of my laptop:
Acer TimelineX 4820TG
Intel i5 2.6 ghz(turbo 2.93)
3 gb 1066mhz ram
500gb Hitachi HDD 7200 rpm
ATI 5650 1 gb graphics card
14in, HD Ready screen
48WH ,10.8v,Li-ion battery
Please someone tell me how much power these machines use per hour?
Simple, exactly what the power rating is, that's how much.
The UPS will charge and hold power, so for the desktop look on the sticker for power rating. same for the laptop, look on the adapter for power rating.
Or you can buy an ampmeter or multimeter and measure the current flowing to them.
Power = Voltage x Current Intensity ( Volts x Amps). The Volts are 110 V in the US.
Or even better buy a P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor

But what do you care anyways? Power is cheap in the US, anywhere from 10 to 50 cents per KWh (1,000 Watt hour).
Are you trying to save the planet or something??
Computers are not big consumers of power (60 to 250 watts) while laptops use even less (15 to 45 watts). Stoves, water heaters, washers, dryers, hairdryers, irons suck lots of power (in the thousands of watts), so maybe you should direct your save the planet campaign to them...
