Computer screen distorts within 5 minutes of gameplay, HELP!?
A while ago I took it to Fry's electronics (worst service in the country). Supposedly they put a piece of metal or some cooling material into my cpu to prevent it from overheating. That worked for about 2 months.
Within 5 minutes of playing Battlefield 2, my screen distorts as well as the sound getting choppy. What's the deal?

1 GB DDR RAM
250GB SATA 7200RPM Serial-ATA Hard Drive with Windows XP
Geforce 8600 PCI-E card
6 Channel Audio Processor
DVD Burner LITE-ON Black 18X DVD+/-R DL Burner
Network Card 10/100 LAN
Gaming Case With 450W Power Supply, Front Ports: USB and Audio Headers

Thanks!!! Your help means so much
Currently my computer is running at 57 degrees Celsius and usually gets up to 70 degrees when running multiple operations
hi brad
by the sounds of it mate, the idiot at fry,s electronics put this usless peice of something on your processor which seems to be heating it up,not cooling it down
so it obviously looks like its processor related, and as battlefield 2 uses quite alot of resources it look like a total overhual of the cooling system in your p.c
however before we look at solutions for that lets go through your p.c,s specs one by one
1.BIOSTAR GEFORCE 6100-M9 ..the only problem to do with your motherboard that could cause these problems is a chipset driver problem
have you installed your chipset drivers, some guys dont bither and this can cause problems similar to these 2 or 3 months down the line
2.1 GB DDR RAM...are you mixing memory types,i used to use a pc3200 and a pc2700 module and although it was fine using the web it played up when playing games,i then changed the pc2700 for a pc3200 so i had two of the same modules and the problems went
3.250GB SATA 7200RPM Serial-ATA Hard Drive with Windows XP,no real problems however if the drive was due to fail it may throw up more errors than normal
4.Geforce 8600 PCI-E card...update drivers,update direct x runtime,does the card perform well in other games?...is the cards gpu-fan working ok?
5. DVD Burner LITE-ON Black 18X DVD+/-R DL Burner..should b fine,however clean the lens with a good lens cleaner
the 450watt psu is slightly low for a p.cusing a 8600 graphics card however even so,it wouldnt cause the types of problems you are having
i have a similar problem with the game "need for speed most wanted" ,every other game plays fine on my p.c except for this, have you tried playing "battlefield 2" on another p.c,see if the game has problems on another p.c.i bet it does
it may also be because the new 8 series cards are still quite new and you may have a dodgy card,if the card still malfunctions on another p.c then return it to the manufacturer
hope this helps
good luck brad!
