makita compact question?
hi I am about to buy a makita (are they good drills by any chance?) drill, the compact ones. I noticed the compact Li-ion batteries are 1.5 Ah is it possible to use the other regular Li-ion batteries on the compact makita? like the full size li-ion battery?

I have used Makita cordless drills in the past, and I can highly recommend them.
If the drill is for home use, then a single Li-ion battery should be good. But I use my drills for work, and I cannot get through the day without a second battery, and sometimes a thrid, so I can have one battery constantly charging, one fully charged standing by, while I use the drill on the third.
The thing with Li-ion batteries, is they run your drill at a consistant rate, and then die suddenly without warning. But that is better than the old Ni-Cads that would need to be run down completely before charging, or the battery would become damaged by charging it up too soon.
Now about the compatability issue. You can't mix voltages, or battery models. I am not familiar with the compact batteries you spoke of here, since I am a professional, I tend to lean toward higher capacity tools. The compatability question is best answered by the store you are buying the tool from. But my experience with Makita is they tend to have their batteries made specifically for their tools, so that you can't cross over to another manufacturer for a replacement.
If you work with someone who uses someone elses tool line, and you want to be able to share batteries with them, then the best solution for that is to stay with their product line.
But for simple home use, what you are considering will probably be OK.
